Renowned singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh recently opened up about his long-standing feud with fellow artist Badshah, shedding light on their past differences and his thoughts on potential future collaborations. In an interview with The Lallantop, Honey Singh discussed the origins of their rift and his perspective on the matter.
The Mafia Mundeer Days
Honey Singh reflected on his time with Mafia Mundeer, a collective of music artists he founded to provide a platform for artists to perform, record, and release music without being legally tied to any organization. Badshah, who was also a member of the group, parted ways with Honey Singh in 2009, leading to the widely discussed feud.
When asked if he harbored any lingering displeasure towards Badshah, Honey Singh responded, “Narazgi apno se hoti hai sir, parayo se thodi na hoti hai” [Displeasure comes from those close to us, not from strangers]. This statement suggests that while the feud may have caused some tension, it was rooted in a close relationship rather than with an outsider.
Clarifying the “Nano” Car Comparison
During the interview, Honey Singh addressed a past controversy where he was accused of comparing Badshah to a “Nano” car, a remark that many interpreted as a diss. Honey Singh clarified that the comparison was taken out of context.
He recounted, “A journalist asked me, ‘These days, Badshah has arrived, what do you have to say about it?’ So I said, ‘Have you ever driven a Rolls Royce?’ He said, ‘No.’ I replied, ‘There is a big difference between a Rolls Royce and a Nano.’ I only pointed out this small thing. I didn’t diss him or release any song against him. Never.”
By this, Honey Singh emphasised that his comments were not meant to belittle Badshah but were simply a metaphorical response to a question posed by the media.
Future Collaborations on the Horizon
Shifting the conversation to potential collaborations, Honey Singh expressed his admiration for Raftaar, another prominent artist who emerged from the streets. “I respect Raftaar because he is a talent that emerged from the streets, and I didn’t bring him up, it was God who did. I just picked him,” Honey Singh said, acknowledging Raftaar’s raw talent. He added that he would be open to working with Raftaar, Lil Golu, and Ikka in the future, highlighting his respect for artists who have risen from humble beginnings.
Upcoming Documentary
As Honey Singh continues to navigate his music career, fans eagerly await the release of his upcoming Netflix documentary, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, which promises an in-depth look at his life and career. The documentary is expected to provide further insight into the highs and lows of his journey in the music industry.
