The video begins with Hina sitting before a mirror, her friend braiding her long hair, while her mother sits nearby, visibly distressed. Hina comforts her mother, saying, “Ro nahi please mumma. It’s just hair, mumma. Baal hain, aap nahi cut karte ho?” (Don’t cry, Mom. It’s just hair. You cut it yourself sometimes, don’t you?). Despite her mother’s continuous sobbing, Hina reassures her, “Bas. Aapki tabiyat kharab hojayegi.” (Stop. You’ll fall ill).
As the video progresses, Hina bravely cuts the first braid herself, followed by her friend trimming the rest of her hair. Her mother, overwhelmed, hugs Hina, who smiles and says, “Not bad. I feel liberated.” Hina’s determination shines through as she embraces her new look with grace and strength.
In a heartfelt note accompanying the video, Hina writes, “You can hear my mother’s wailing voice in Kashmiri (blessing me) in the background as she prepared herself to witness something she never dared to imagine. Not all of us have the same tools at our disposal to manage heartbreaking emotions.”
Addressing her fans and others battling cancer, Hina adds, “To all the beautiful people out there, especially women who are fighting the same battle, I know it’s hard. I know for most of us, our hair is the crown we never take off. But what if you’re facing a battle so tough that you have to lose your hair—your pride, your crown? If you want to win, you’ve got to take some tough decisions. And I choose to win.”
Hina revealed she decided to cut her hair before it began to fall out from treatment, explaining, “I choose to let go of my crown because I’ve realized my real crown is my COURAGE, my STRENGTH, and the love I have for myself. I have decided to use my own hair to make a nice wig for this phase. Hair will grow back, eyebrows will return, scars will fade, but the spirit must remain whole.”
Message For Fans
Concluding her message, Hina urged her fans to keep her in their prayers, saying, “I am recording my story, my journey, to ensure that my efforts to embrace myself reach everyone out there. If my story can make even one day of this heartwarming yet excruciating experience better for someone, it’s worth it…May God ease our pain and give us strength to be victorious. Plz Pray Pray Pray for me.”
Hina was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 28 and has been documenting her journey, including her first chemotherapy session right after attending an award show. Her bravery and openness continue to inspire many as she faces this challenging battle with unwavering strength.
