When Farah saw the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ directed by Karan Johar, she decided that she wanted to make a film about college life. Farah says, ‘I wanted to make my first film with Shahrukh, but I saw that Shahrukh was not ready to do ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. He felt that he was too old to play the role of a college student. In such a situation, it seemed impossible to convince him to another college film’.

Farah Khan continues, ‘When I decided that Shahrukh would play the hero in ‘Main Hoon Na’, I decided that I would use reverse engineering in the film. The film will start from the past and move to the present and thus Shahrukh will look normal in the role of a college student. This is how I prepared him for ‘Main Hoon Na’.

When Farah Khan decided that she would direct ‘Main Hoon Na’, she thought that she would produce this film on a small scale only since she was new to the field of direction. Farah says, ‘I had decided that I will make a small film about a college drug bust. Shahrukh went to save his brother in that film, but gradually the Pakistan angle was also added to it and the film became big without even thinking about it already, overall it was a great experience for us to work with Shahrukh.’
