Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal have opened up about their interfaith marriage, emphasizing that their different religions have never been a point of contention. In a recent interview with ETimes, the couple shared insights into their harmonious relationship, despite internet divisions over their union.

Sonakshi and Zaheer both affirmed that their respective faiths have never been a topic of disagreement. “Absolutely! I think it will be beautiful,” Sonakshi said, referring to embracing each other’s cultures as a married couple. “But genuinely, we’re not that very different from each other. Our core values are the same. Our parents taught us to be good human beings and believe in God, irrespective of whatever name you know him by. The most important thing in life is to be a good person – those are the values we have imbibed.”

Zaheer reinforced this sentiment, stating that he could have numerous disagreements with Sonakshi, but religion would never be among them. He recalled advice from Salim Khan, Salman Khan’s father, who had an interfaith marriage himself. “Salim uncle once told me this is what he had shared with Salma aunty’s parents when they got married,” Zaheer said.

Sonakshi also highlighted that throughout their seven-year relationship, the difference in their faiths was never a subject of discussion. “We both respect other religions. It’s never been an issue for us or even a discussion,” she said. The actress acknowledged that the only noise about their interfaith marriage comes from external sources. “As actors, we belong to audiences from different faiths,” she added.

The couple’s relationship timeline is notable. Sonakshi and Zaheer dated for seven years before tying the knot on June 23, 2017, the same date they started dating. They both appeared in the film Double XL, co-produced by Huma Qureshi. Zaheer, the son of businessman Iqbal Ratansi and a close friend of Salman Khan, was introduced to Sonakshi by Salman at a party. Salman also supported Zaheer’s debut film Notebook, where he starred alongside Pranutan Bahl.

Most recently, Sonakshi was seen in Aditya Sarpotdar’s horror-comedy Kakuda, continuing her diverse roles in the film industry.
