On September 10, as Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap turned a year older, fans and colleagues celebrated his vast contribution to Hindi cinema. Known for films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Gulaal, Manmarziyaan, and Black Friday, Kashyap’s unique storytelling has earned him a place among the most prominent personalities in the industry. To mark his birthday, an amusing anecdote involving Kashyap and actor Manoj Bajpayee resurfaced, offering a glimpse into the filmmaker’s close relationships and off-screen moments.

During an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show commemorating 10 years of Gangs of Wasseypur, Kapil Sharma recalled a humorous incident between Kashyap and Bajpayee. The story was originally shared by director Anubhav Sinha and later confirmed by Kashyap himself.

Kashyap, explaining the situation, revealed how a casual tasting session at legendary lyricist Gulzar’s residence turned into a memorable encounter. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was working on a cookery show at the time, and Kashyap and Bajpayee, known for their fondness for food, often visited to sample dishes.

Kashyap shared, “We were always hungry, so we would reach for the tasting. During one of these visits, a conversation led to Manoj getting emotional.” The tension escalated when Bajpayee, feeling insulted in front of Gulzar, chased Kashyap with a stone in hand.

“He thought I had insulted him in front of Gulzar Sahab, so he picked up a stone and started chasing me. Hansal Mehta was trying to stop us. After some running, we both ended up sitting on the roadside, crying, and then hugged it out,” Kashyap laughed, recalling the event.

The incident is a testament to the camaraderie between Kashyap and Bajpayee, who have worked together on multiple projects, including Gangs of Wasseypur, Satya, and Shool. Kashyap’s role as a screenwriter in Ram Gopal Varma’s 1998 film Satya marked the beginning of a long-standing professional relationship with Bajpayee.

Most recently, Kashyap was seen in the Tamil mystery film Maharaja, alongside Vijay Sethupathi, further expanding his footprint as both a filmmaker and actor in Indian cinema.
