Dia Mirza’s Series Kaafir Adapted into a Film; Actress Opens Up About Emotionally Draining Rape Scene! Dia Mirza’s acclaimed series Kaafir has been adapted into a film, bringing its powerful story to a wider audience. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about one of the most intense moments in the series—the emotionally taxing rape scene. She revealed that filming the scene left her physically and emotionally shaken, describing it as one of the most challenging experiences of her career.
Dia Mirza’s 2019 series Kaafir, which also stars Mohit Raina, has now been released as a film. In the story, Dia portrays an innocent Pakistani woman who unknowingly crosses the Line of Control and ends up on the Indian side. Recently, the actress opened up about a deeply disturbing rape scene in the series, revealing that the experience left her shaken to the core.
Dia Mirza portrays Kainaaz Akhtar, a woman wrongly imprisoned along with her daughter, who is born behind bars. In an interview with CNN-News18, the actress spoke about the intense challenges of filming a rape scene for the series, describing it as both physically and emotionally exhausting. “I was physically shaking,” she recalled.
“I remember when we shot the rape scene, it was so hard. I was shaking physically after we got done with filming that scene. I remember throwing up. I vomited after we finished rolling that entire sequence. That’s how emotionally and physically demanding those situations were. When you take your entire body into the truth of that moment, you feel it. You feel it to its full extent,” the actress mentioned.
At 43, Dia emphasized the importance of empathy in acting, stating that truly connecting with a character is essential to delivering an authentic and convincing performance. “I think the first and most important thing one needs to feel as an artist is empathy towards the character that you’re playing and embodying. So that when you play, you’re absolutely true to the story and to everything within it. Playing Kainaaz actually made me a mother much before I became a biological mother. It was because of the kind of intensity and ferocity and love and protectiveness I felt for her while working on the show,” Dia Mirza stated.
