In a recent interview, Dia Mirza discussed her stepdaughter Samaira Rekhi and her son Avyaan Azaad Rekhi’s relationship and discussed their disagreements. As India’s proud UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Bollywood actress Dia Mirza is doing everything in her power to encourage environmentally beneficial behaviour. On the personal front, she married Vaibhav Rekhi, a businessman, on February 15, 2021. Avyaan Azaad Rekhi and Samaira Rekhi, the couple’s two children, are the pride of their parents. Samaira, to the uninitiated, is Vaibhav’s child from his first union with Sunaina Rekhi.
Dia Mirza expressed her thanks for the possibilities she has in life and talked about how privileged she is in an interview with Hindustan Times. The 41-year-old actress discussed this topic and claimed that the movies enable her to live out her life’s purpose and justify the time she spends away from her children, Avyaan and Samaira. She stated:
“I feel really privileged and grateful to be a part of films that follow my purpose. It helps me do something that actually makes a difference. It strikes some really important conversations and hopefully brings change. And, I always believe that storytelling through cinema is a powerful instrument for positive social change. Good, powerful, and meaningful stories only make it worth it to be away from my children. So that they can watch it someday and recognise its real value.”
Dia Mirza also talked openly about her time spent at home with her family, including her husband Vaibhav Rekhi and their children. She mentioned the same, saying that they had a baby and a teenager at home and that it’s interesting to watch how they connect over seemingly insignificant things. She said: “It’s really interesting. Vaibhav and I have a full spectrum at home. We have an infant and a teenager, and every emotion is there–the hormones of a teenager and the fascination of an infant discovering the world. It’s really interesting to see how bonded these two are, and how much they love each other. How their eyes and heart lit up in each other’s presence.”
When asked about the relationship between her 13-year-old stepdaughter Samaira and her 1-year-old son Avyaan, Dia said that the younger child is curious, which is what her stepdaughter’s older sister enjoys. The devoted mother revealed details regarding Avyaan’s musical preferences:
“There’s so much about Avyaan’s curiosity that gets Samaira. She keeps saying ‘how does he like old music?’ I just say ‘we give him everything, from classics to contemporary. He is just the way he is, what do we do? He asks for it, and we play’. He loves Strangers In The Night by Frank Sinatra and Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke by Kishore Kumar. He says ‘Alexa Hum Hain, Alexa Na Na Na.’”
On the professional front, Dia Mirza’s next film appearance will be in Bheed, directed by Anurag Kashyap.
