Sydney Sweeney has spoken candidly about the intrusive behavior of paparazzi and the risks they pose to her safety. In a recent interview with Glamour magazine, the Euphoria star detailed a disturbing incident where photographers swarmed her Florida home, even attempting to manipulate her family into bringing her outside. According to Sweeney, one photographer went as far as to suggest that if she appeared in a bikini, they would leave.
“They said, ‘If you tell her to just come outside in a bikini, I’ll take pictures and then I’ll leave you alone,’” Sweeney recounted. She firmly denied allegations that she calls the paparazzi herself, questioning why she would ever want such attention when her family, including her young cousins, were present. “Why would I call the paparazzi to take pictures of me at my own house…? Why would I ever want that?” she asked.
The harassment extended beyond this single incident. Sweeney revealed that some photographers had taken extreme measures to capture photos of her, including hiding in kayaks off the coast of her home for hours. “I have pictures of these guys in kayaks hiding in bushes in the ocean. They got there at 8 AM and wouldn’t leave until 4 PM,” she said. The actress stressed her discomfort with the lack of privacy, saying, “I should be able to be in my home and feel comfortable and safe.”
Sweeney expressed her concern over the potential safety risks these photos create when made public. “When those photos go out, then my actual safety is at risk. Everyone knows where I am,” she said, adding that her house had effectively become a stop on a “star tour” as boats pass by to observe her residence.
In the same interview, Sweeney also addressed rumors about her relationship with 40-year-old fiancé Jonathan, whom she has been dating since 2018. The actress clarified that she is financially independent, stating, “I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself… You can be in a healthy relationship with someone and also be very successful without needing the man.” Sweeney emphasized that her relationship is a partnership built on mutual support, noting, “We’re teammates. We want to see each other succeed.”
