Former Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia, known for her roles in films like Dil Maange More, Dor, and Wanted, has once again found herself in the spotlight, but not for reasons she might have hoped. Following a recent surge of online trolling, Takia has deactivated her Instagram account. This comes after she shared a post featuring herself in an ethnic blue and golden saree, which led to renewed speculation about her appearance, with many social media users alleging that she had undergone plastic surgery.
Earlier this year, Takia was similarly targeted by online trolls when she was photographed at the Mumbai airport with her son. At the time, she had strongly condemned the harsh criticism of her looks, addressing the issue publicly. However, in the current instance, the actor has chosen to remain silent, opting to deactivate her account instead of engaging with her detractors.
The incident unfolded after Takia’s August 19 Instagram post, which featured her in traditional attire. A segment of her followers quickly commented on how unrecognisable she appeared, prompting another wave of gossip and cruel remarks about her supposed cosmetic procedures. The backlash ultimately led to the deactivation of her Instagram account, leaving many to wonder if she would speak out against the negativity as she did previously.
In February 2024, after being subjected to similar scrutiny, Takia had posted a strongly worded message on Instagram. She revealed that she had been dealing with a family medical emergency at the time but was still bombarded with unnecessary and hurtful comments about her appearance. She made it clear that she had no intention of returning to the film industry and urged people to “get over” her.
Takia is married to restaurateur Farhan Azmi, son of politician Abu Azmi, and the couple shares a son, Mikail. Despite stepping away from the limelight, Takia continues to face undue attention and criticism, a challenge she appears determined to rise above.
