Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput fell in love during their show Pavitra Rishta. They had been in a relationship for almost six years until they parted ways in 2016. Ankita, who made her Bollywood debut with Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika in 2019, revealed that she was offered other big Bollywood films before such as Happy New Year, Bajirao Mastani, and Sultan. However, she turns down the offers back then as she was trying to be strong support for Sushant after the breakup.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ankita Lokhande talked about turning down big films like Happy New Year. “I remember Farah ma’am had offered me this film. I had met Shah Rukh Khan sir also. He had assured to give me the best debut,” she said. She further added, “But back of the mind, I was in Macao, Sushant, Shah Rukh sir and I. I was like Bhagwan mera naa ho yaar.” She said that girls usually want the best for their partners, and that is how they think. “Till today, I have no regrets. I was just trying to build a man, and I did that. I was just trying to be very strong support of Sushant, and I did that,” she said.

Ankita also talked about her relationship with Sushant and how the latter has chosen his career. Ankita revealed that she was trying to be strong support for Sushant and that it was after the breakup that she understood her value. She also revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali advised her to take up the role in Bajirao Mastani. He was praising her, and insisted that she take up the film, but Ankita told him, ‘Nahi sir, mujhe shaadi karni hai.’
