Bollywood celebrities are often criticised for promoting unhealthy lifestyles through their brand endorsements while maintaining a disciplined diet for themselves. However, actress Shilpa Shetty stands apart, emphasising that she exercises strict diligence when selecting brands to associate with. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Shetty opened up about her responsibility as a public figure and her commitment to health.

Shetty, known for her advocacy of fitness and wellness, firmly stated she would never endorse products that harm health. “I have a responsibility as a public figure. I won’t stand behind something that isn’t good for health,” she said.

The Role of Responsibility

When discussing the responsibility of being a celebrity, Shetty admitted she places greater emphasis on health considerations than many of her peers. “As an actor, I have endorsed a few products where I thought, ‘there’s a bit too much sugar,’ but I can’t be overly critical. People consume sugar, but even so, I’m very particular,” she said.

“For me, health is a gift. Refined sugar, junk food, and aerated drinks are things I choose not to endorse. I can’t recommend products I wouldn’t give to my family. I walk the talk,” Shetty added.

Though she respects other celebrities who choose to promote such products, she explained that she simply cannot do so. “These products don’t contribute to great health, and I don’t want to endorse them,” she said.

Personal Connection with Brands

Shetty revealed that she always looks for a personal connection when deciding which brands to represent. Her latest investment in the supplement spray brand Nutrispray, founded by Arpit Save, reflects this approach. She has not only invested in the company but also serves as the face of the brand.

“Partnering with Nutrispray was a natural decision. Today, as a brand endorser and investor, there’s a trust the consumer places in the product. It’s a responsibility I take seriously,” Shetty explained.

A Family-Driven Choice

Shetty shared that her decision to support Nutrispray stemmed from a personal experience. Her father-in-law, who suffered from severe iron deficiency, saw significant improvement after using an iron supplement spray. “His iron levels increased, and that said a lot about the product’s efficacy. This awareness led me to the partnership,” she concluded.

Shilpa Shetty will next be seen in the upcoming multilingual film KD: The Devil, set in 1970s Bangalore, alongside Dhruva, Sarja and Sanjay Dutt.
